Writing Opinion Articles in Chinese (时评)
Opinion articles (时评) follow a classic Chinese essay structure. At C1 level, mastering the structure and connectors elevates your writing.
Classic structure (议论文 structure)
1. 引题 — Hook: introduce the issue with a current event or striking question 2. 立论 — State your position clearly and concisely 3. 论证 — Support with evidence, logic, examples (佐证) 4. 驳论 — Anticipate and refute counter-arguments (反面例证) 5. 结论 — Restate position, add implications or call to action
Advanced participle/verbal structures
- 鉴于此 (given this) → opens a reasoning step
- 鉴于此，我们有充分理由相信...
- 由此看来 (from this perspective) → draws inference
- 由此看来，该政策的局限性不容忽视。
- 由此可知 (from this it can be known) → logical conclusion
Opening a 时评
Effective hooks:
- Statistics: 近年来，XX的比例高达YY%，令人忧虑。
- Quotation: 正如XX所言，"..."
- Rhetorical question: 面对这一困境，我们究竟该如何抉择？
表达
- 面对这一现状，我们有必要深思Essay opener: facing this reality, reflection
- 鉴于此，我们有充分理由认为Formal reasoning: given this, we have reason
- 诚然，也有人持相反观点Concession before rebuttal: admittedly, some
- 然而事实证明，这一担忧未必成立Rebuttal: facts show this concern may not hold
- 综合以上分析，结论不言而喻Essay conclusion: the conclusion is self-evident
常见错误
我认为这个问题很严重从目前的形势来看，该问题的严峻性已不容忽视Opinion articles use formal framing structures, not first-person 我认为 — distance the author with 从...来看
