Expressing Hunger and Food Preferences
Saying you are hungry or thirsty
In Chinese, 饿 (hungry) and 渴 (thirsty) are adjectives, often used with 了:
- 我饿了。— I'm hungry. (change of state)
- 我渴了。— I'm thirsty.
- 我很饿。— I'm very hungry. (degree)
Saying what you want to eat
Use 想 (xiǎng = want to) + verb:
- 我想吃饺子。— I want to eat dumplings.
- 我想喝茶。— I want to drink tea.
Asking what someone wants to eat
- 你想吃什么?— What do you want to eat?
- 你想喝什么?— What do you want to drink?
Expressing taste
- 这个很好吃!— This is delicious!
- 不好吃。— Not tasty.
- 太甜了。— Too sweet.
- 太辣了。— Too spicy.
表达
- 我饿了。Say you are hungry
- 你想吃什么?Ask what someone wants to eat
- 我想吃面条。Say you want to eat noodles
- 这个很好吃!Say something is delicious
- 太辣了。Say something is too spicy
- 我不吃辣。Say you do not eat spicy food
常见错误
我是饿我饿了Use 了 to indicate a change of state; 是 is not used with adjectives this way
我想要吃饺子我想吃饺子想 alone expresses want-to; adding 要 is redundant at A1
很好吃这个这个很好吃The adjective phrase follows the subject
我吃不辣我不吃辣Negation 不 goes before the verb, not between verb and object
喝水我我喝水Chinese word order is Subject-Verb-Object; subject comes first
