Telling the Time
Asking the time
- 现在几点？— What time is it now?
- 几点了？— What time is it?
Saying the time Use number + 点 for the hour, then add minutes:
- 三点 — 3 o'clock
- 三点三十分 — 3:30 (thirty minutes past three)
- 三点半 — 3:30 (half past three — 半 = half)
- 三点一刻 — 3:15 (quarter past three)
- 三点四十五分 — 3:45
Saying "X minutes to" Use 差 + minutes + 点:
- 差五分三点 — Five minutes to three (2:55)
Time of day Add time-of-day words before the time:
- 早上八点 — 8 AM
- 下午三点 — 3 PM
- 晚上十点 — 10 PM

- 现在几点？What time is it now?

- 三点。It is three o clock.
- 三点半。It is half past three.
- 三点一刻。It is quarter past three.
- 早上八点。Eight in the morning.
- 下午三点。Three in the afternoon.
- 晚上十点。Ten at night.

下午的三点下午三点No 的 between the time-of-day word and the hour
几点现在？现在几点？Time adverbials like 现在 (now) go at the start of the sentence, before the question word 几点, not after it.
三刻三点三刻You must state the hour before 刻
