Discussing philosophical questions in Spanish requires mastery of the advanced subjunctive and the unreal conditional. The imperfect subjunctive is used for hypotheses far from reality: Si tuviéramos conciencia plena, ¿actuaríamos diferente? (If we had full consciousness, would we act differently?). The past unreal conditional uses the pluperfect subjunctive: Si hubiéramos tenido libre albedrío, habríamos elegido distinto (If we had had free will, we would have chosen differently). To express existential doubt: No creo que la existencia tenga un propósito único (I do not believe existence has a single purpose). Philosophical rhetorical questions often use inversion: ¿Acaso no somos más que nuestra percepción? (Are we not more than our perception?). These structures allow you to articulate abstract reasoning with precision and elegance at the C1 level.
