Nominalization in Academic Portuguese

Academic Portuguese heavily uses nominalization — turning verbs into nouns for a more formal, objective tone:

analisar → a análise (the analysis)
investigar → a investigação (the investigation)
desenvolver → o desenvolvimento (the development)

Academic Passive Voice

The passive is preferred for objectivity:

Os dados foram recolhidos em 2024 (The data were collected in 2024)
A hipótese foi confirmada pelos resultados (The hypothesis was confirmed by the results)

Cause-and-Effect Connectors

Key academic connectors include: dado que (given that), visto que (since), por conseguinte (consequently), em virtude de (by virtue of), daí que (hence).
