In Portuguese, reporting unverified information requires specific structures to signal uncertainty.
Reporting hearsay:
- Parece que houve um acidente. — It seems there was an accident.
- Dizem que o presidente vai demitir-se. — They say the president will resign.
Citing sources:
- Segundo o jornal... — According to the newspaper...
- De acordo com especialistas... — According to experts...
- Conforme noticiado... — As reported...
Expressing doubt:
- Duvido que isso seja verdade. — I doubt that is true. (+ subjunctive!)
- Não acredito que tenha acontecido. — I don't believe it happened.
Note: After duvido que and não acredito que, Portuguese requires the conjuntivo (subjunctive), because these express doubt.

Essa informação não é fiável.Essa informação não é credível.'Credível' means believable; 'fiável' means reliable. Use 'credível' when judging truth.
