Discussing scientific research in Korean requires specific vocabulary and grammar for reporting findings with appropriate epistemic certainty.
Key grammar points:
- -되었다 (passive perfect) — Describes completed research actions.
- 새로운 백신이 개발되었다. (A new vaccine has been developed.)
- 결과가 논문에 발표되었다. (The results were published in a paper.)
- -다고/라고 (indirect speech) — Reports what researchers claim or what studies show.
- 연구팀은 새로운 원소를 발견했다고 발표했다. (The research team announced that they had discovered a new element.)
- -(으)ㄹ 가능성이 있다 — Expresses scientific possibility or hypothesis.
- 이 물질이 암 치료에 효과가 있을 가능성이 있다. (This substance may have effectiveness in cancer treatment.)
- -ㄴ/은 것이 틀림없다 — States conclusions with high certainty based on evidence.
- 이 화석이 공룡의 것인 것이 틀림없다. (This fossil must be from a dinosaur.)
Tip: In Korean academic writing, passive forms with -되다 are strongly preferred over active constructions.
Typowe błędy

이 가설이 실험으로 증명됐어요이 가설이 실험으로 증명되었다Academic writing uses the plain 합니다체/한다체 (-되었다), not the casual 해요체 -됐어요.
과학자들이 새로운 이론을 발표했다새로운 이론이 발표되었다Korean academic style prefers the passive 발표되다 over the active 발표하다 for reporting findings.
데이터가 부족해서 추가 연구가 필요할 가능성이 있다데이터가 부족하기 때문에 추가 연구가 필요할 가능성이 있다For an objective cause in formal writing, -기 때문에 fits better than the more colloquial -아서/어서.
이 화석이 공룡의 것이 틀림없는다이 화석이 공룡의 것인 것이 틀림없다You need the adnominal 인 것 + 틀림없다. 틀림없다 is an adjective, so never add -는다 to it.
