Self-confidence (자신감) is expressed in Korean through specific grammatical structures that convey certainty, possibility, and regret.
Key grammar points:
- -ㄴ/은 것이 틀림없다 — Expresses certainty: "It must be that..." Used to affirm your own strengths with conviction.
- 그는 훌륭한 리더인 것이 틀림없다. (He must be an excellent leader.)
- -(으)ㄹ 가능성이 있다 — "There is a possibility of..." Acknowledges potential without overclaiming.
- 나는 성공할 가능성이 있다. (I have the possibility of succeeding.)
- -았/었더라면 — Counterfactual "If I had..." Used to reflect on past choices and learn from them.
- 더 일찍 시작했더라면 좋았을 것이다. (It would have been better if I had started earlier.)
- -게 만들다 — "To make someone feel/do..." Describes how experiences shape confidence.
- 성공이 나를 더 자신감 있게 만들었다. (Success made me more confident.)
Tip: In Korean culture, confidence is often expressed indirectly. Use these structures to convey assurance without sounding boastful.
