Telling Time in Korean
Korean uses native numbers for hours and Sino-Korean numbers for minutes.
Asking and telling time:
- 지금 몇 시예요? → What time is it now?
- 두 시예요 → It is two o'clock
- 세 시 삼십 분이에요 → It is 3:30
Native Korean numbers for hours (1-12):
- 한 시 (1:00), 두 시 (2:00), 세 시 (3:00), 네 시 (4:00)
- 다섯 시 (5:00), 여섯 시 (6:00), 일곱 시 (7:00), 여덟 시 (8:00)
- 아홉 시 (9:00), 열 시 (10:00), 열한 시 (11:00), 열두 시 (12:00)
Sino-Korean numbers for minutes:
- 일 분 (1 min), 십 분 (10 min), 삼십 분 (30 min)
- 반 (half) = 30 minutes
AM/PM:
- 오전 두 시 (2 AM), 오후 두 시 (2 PM)

Typowe błędy
이 시예요두 시예요Hours use native Korean numbers; 2 o'clock is 두 시, not 이 시 (Sino-Korean 이 is not used for hours)
세 시 삼십이에요세 시 삼십 분이에요Always include the minute counter 분 after the minute number
몇 분이에요?몇 시예요?To ask the time use 몇 시예요? (What hour?); 몇 분이에요? asks specifically about minutes
오후 두 시 반 있어요오후 두 시 반이에요To state the time use 이에요/예요, not 있어요
일곱 분이에요일곱 시예요시 means o'clock/hour; 분 means minute; do not confuse them
