～かねない (kanenai) means "there is a risk of" or "might well." It warns about potential negative consequences.

That is a statement that could well invite misunderstanding.

These patterns are opposites in meaning: かねる expresses polite inability, while かねない warns of risk. In Q&A contexts, use かねる to gracefully decline sensitive questions, and かねない to highlight potential problems. Pair them with 慎重に (cautiously) and 的確に (precisely) to navigate challenging interactions with professionalism.
