Passato prossimo with da/per and Change of State
To talk about how social media has evolved, specific past structures are used.
È cambiato / È diventato (It has changed / It has become) These verbs form the passato prossimo with essere:
- Il mondo è cambiato grazie ai social media. (The world has changed thanks to social media.)
- La comunicazione è diventata più rapida. (Communication has become faster.)
- La mia visione è cambiata completamente. (My view has changed completely.)
Da... (since / for — ongoing) and Per... (for — completed)
- Uso Instagram da tre anni. (I have been using Instagram for three years.)
- Ho studiato italiano per due anni prima di venire in Italia. (I studied Italian for two years before coming to Italy.)
Difference between da and per:
- Da + duration = action that is still ongoing now
- Lavoro in questa azienda da cinque anni. (I have been working at this company for five years.)
- Per + duration = completed action, total duration
- Ho lavorato in quella azienda per tre anni. (I worked at that company for three years.)
Other useful change verbs:
