Friends and Pronouns
We/They pronouns:
- мы — we (includes yourself)
- они — they (third person plural)
- вы — you all / you (formal)
Basic plural nouns: Russian plurals are formed by changing the ending. Common patterns:
- Masculine consonant + ы/и: друг → друзья (irregular!), стол → столы
- Feminine -а → -ы/-и: подруга → подруги, книга → книги
- Note: Some plurals are irregular — just memorize друзья (friends)
Talking about friends:
- Это мой друг Иван. — This is my friend Ivan.
- Мы хорошие друзья. — We are good friends.
- Они мои друзья. — They are my friends.
Useful verbs:
- дружить с — to be friends with (requires instrumental case — learn later!)
- встречаться — to meet up
- общаться — to hang out / communicate
Expressions
- Это мой лучший друг.Introduce your best friend
- Мы познакомились в школе.Say you met at school
- Мы часто встречаемся.Say you often meet up
- Они очень весёлые.Describe friends as very fun
- Мы вместе занимаемся спортом.Say you do sports together
- Она всегда мне помогает.She always helps me
- У меня много друзей.Say you have many friends
Common mistakes
мой друзьямои друзьяWith plural nouns use мои not мой
Они есть мои друзья.Они мои друзья.No есть needed in present tense to be sentences
много другмного друзейThe plural of друг is irregular друзья and after много use genitive plural друзей
Это моя друг Иван.Это мой друг Иван.друг is masculine so use мой not моя
