There is / There are — 場所を説明する

there is と there are は、ある場所に何かが存在することを伝えるときに使います。

There is → 単数・数えられない名詞

• There is a park near my house. → 家の近くに公園があります。
• There is a lovely bakery on the corner. → 角にすてきなパン屋があります。
• There is a lot of traffic in the morning. → 朝は交通量が多いです。

There are → 複数

• There are two pharmacies in my neighbourhood. → 私の近所には薬局が2軒あります。
• There are lots of cafés and restaurants nearby. → 近くにカフェやレストランがたくさんあります。

否定形と疑問形

• There isn't a post office nearby. → 近くに郵便局はありません。
• There aren't many parks in the city centre. → 中心街には公園があまりありません。
• Is there a library near here? → この辺りに図書館はありますか？
• Are there any good restaurants nearby? → 近くに良いレストランはありますか？

豆知識：疑問文では some の代わりに any を使います。Is there any traffic?（渋滞はありますか？）のように。
