The Passive Voice with the Present Perfect
At B2 level, the passive with the present perfect (*passato prossimo*) is formed with essere in the present perfect + a past participle that agrees in gender and number.
Formation
essere (present perfect) + past participle
- Actif : *Hanno scoperto un nuovo pianeta.* → Passif : *È stato scoperto un nuovo pianeta.*
- Actif : *Hanno dimostrato la teoria.* → Passif : *La teoria è stata dimostrata.*

Nuance: *essere* vs *venire*
- essere + p.p. → resulting state or a completed past action
- *Il vaccino è stato approvato.* — The vaccine has been approved.
- venire + p.p. → ongoing or repeated action (present/imperfect only)
- *I risultati vengono verificati ogni anno.* — The results are verified every year.

B2 tip: In Italian scientific texts, the passive voice is very common because it foregrounds the action rather than the agent — just as in academic English.
