At the pharmacy, certain polite phrases are essential to ask for help, inquire about a medication, or check dosage instructions.
Asking for advice or a recommendation
- Potrebbe consigliarmi...? → Could you recommend... ?
- Potrebbe consigliarmi un antidolorifico? → Could you recommend a painkiller?
- Potrebbe consigliarmi qualcosa per la tosse? → Could you recommend something for a cough?
Asking about dosage
- Ogni quanto devo prenderlo? → How often should I take it?
- Ogni quanto devo prendere le compresse? → How often should I take the tablets?
- Per quanti giorni devo prenderlo? → For how many days should I take it?
Checking safety
- È sicuro per i bambini? → Is it safe for children?
- È sicuro per le donne incinte? → Is it safe for pregnant women?
- Ci sono effetti collaterali? → Are there any side effects?
The conditional of politeness
*Potrebbe* is the conditional of the verb *potere* and is used for polite requests, equivalent to "could you" in English.
