APA (American Psychological Association) — usato in psicologia, scienze sociali, educazione:

  • Nel testo: (Smith, 2021, p. 45) oppure Smith (2021) argues that...
  • In bibliografia: Smith, J. (2021). Title of work. Publisher.

MLA (Modern Language Association) — usato in letteratura, arti, discipline umanistiche:

  • Nel testo: (Smith 45) oppure Smith argues that...
  • In bibliografia: Smith, John. Title of Work. Publisher, 2021.

  • As Smith (2021) argues, "..." — the implication being that...
  • According to recent scholarship (Jones, 2020), the evidence suggests...
  • A landmark study conducted by Chen et al. (2019) demonstrated that...
  • This view is corroborated by the findings of López and Martin (2022), who...
  • Contrary to conventional wisdom, Kim (2023) contends that...
London

Espressioni

  • As X argues...Introduce un'idea attribuendola a un autore
  • According to Y (year)...Cita una fonte con l'anno di pubblicazione
  • This is supported by...Rafforza un argomento con una fonte esterna
  • Contrary to what X claims...Contesta un'idea citando l'autore confutato
  • A growing body of evidence suggests...Rimanda a un insieme crescente di studi
  • Scholars have long debated...Colloca il tema in un dibattito di lunga data
  • The seminal work of X established...Richiama uno studio fondativo nel campo
  • As corroborated by recent findings...Rafforza con dati recenti a conferma

Errori frequenti

  • As Smith (2019) says that the results are significant.
As Smith (2019) argues, the results are significant. / Smith (2019) argues that the results are significant.

"As" introduce già l'attribuzione: non si può unirlo a "says that". Scegli una sola struttura, non entrambe.

  • As it is cited in the work of Brown...
As Brown demonstrates... / Brown shows that...

La forma passiva impersonale "as it is cited" è goffa: meglio un verbo di attribuzione attivo.

  • Many researchers believe that climate change is real.
A growing body of researchers maintains that... / Research consistently indicates that...

"Many researchers" è vago: nella scrittura accademica servono quantificatori o formulazioni più precise.

  • This idea comes from Jones et al (2020).
This idea is drawn from Jones et al. (2020). / This concept originates in Jones et al. (2020).

"Comes from" è troppo informale per un testo accademico: si preferiscono verbi accademici più precisi.

  • The author references to the 2019 study.
The author references the 2019 study.

  • According to Smith, he argues that the results are valid.
Smith argues that the results are valid.

"According to X" e "X argues" insieme sono ridondanti: bisogna scegliere una delle due costruzioni.
