I numeri da 0 a 100

I numeri da 1 a 12 sono tutti diversi e vanno imparati a memoria:

  • one, two, three, four, five → six, seven, eight, nine, ten

  • I numeri composti: decina + - + unità (twenty-one, thirty-five, forty-eight...)

Esempio: 67 = sixty-seven

Dire la propria età

In italiano "hai" un'età. In inglese "sei" un'età. Si usa to be, non to have:

Esempio: "I am twenty-five years old." -> "Ho venticinque anni."

Esempio: "How old are you?" -> "Quanti anni hai?"

Nella conversazione si può semplificare:

Esempio: "I'm 25." (senza "years old")

Attenzione a "thirteen" e "thirty"!

Queste due parole si assomigliano molto all'orecchio. Il trucco: l'accento tonico cambia posizione.

  • thir-TEEN (13): accento alla fine
  • THIR-ty (30): accento all'inizio

Vale lo stesso per fourteen/forty, fifteen/fifty, ecc.

Errori frequenti

  • I have 30 years
    I am 30 years old

Trappola classica! In inglese si usa "to be" (essere) per l'età, non "to have" (avere).

  • How many years do you have?
    How old are you?

Stessa trappola: la domanda sull'età è "How old are you?", non una traduzione letterale.

  • My number is twenty-three, forty-five
    My number is two-three, four-five

Per i numeri di telefono si dice ogni cifra separatamente: non si raggruppano in decine.

  • She has fifteen years
    She is fifteen (years old)

Ancora la trappola "avere/essere"! L'età si esprime con "to be" per tutte le persone.

  • fourteen confondu avec forty
    fourteen (14) vs forty (40)

Ascolta bene l'accento: four-TEEN (accento alla fine) contro FOR-ty (accento all'inizio).
