Punto di grammatica

It is + aggettivo per il meteo

In italiano dici "fa bello", "fa freddo". In inglese si usa It is (o la contrazione It's) seguito da un aggettivo:

Esempio: "It's sunny today." = "Oggi fa bello."

Esempio: "It's very cold outside." = "Fuori fa molto freddo."

Esempio: "It's warm and cloudy." = "Fa mite ed è nuvoloso."

Attenzione, non tradurre alla lettera l'italiano "fa"! Non è "It makes" né "It does". È sempre It's:

Esempio: "It's hot." = "Fa caldo." (non "It makes hot")

Fare la domanda

Per chiedere che tempo fa, hai due modi molto utili:

Esempio: "What's the weather like?" = "Che tempo fa?"

Esempio: "What's the weather like today?" = "Che tempo fa oggi?"

Puoi anche essere più preciso:

Esempio: "Is it cold outside?" = "Fa freddo fuori?"

Esempio: "Is it going to rain?" = "Pioverà?"

It is + verbo in -ing per descrivere il tempo in corso

Per dire cosa sta succedendo in questo momento, si può anche usare It's + verbo in -ing:

Esempio: "It's raining." = "Sta piovendo."

Esempio: "It's snowing!" = "Sta nevicando!"

Errori frequenti

  • It makes cold.
    It is cold.

Non si traduce "fa" con "it makes"! Si dice sempre "it is".

  • What time does it make?
    What's the weather like?

"Che tempo fa?" si dice "What's the weather like?", non con una traduzione letterale.

  • Today is sun.
    Today is sunny.

"Sun" è il nome (sole), "sunny" è l'aggettivo (soleggiato).

  • It's rain.
    It's raining / It's rainy.

Serve l'aggettivo (rainy) oppure il verbo in -ing (raining).

  • I don't like the cold weather.
    I don't like cold weather.

In generale, niente articolo "the" davanti a "cold weather" quando parli in senso generale.

  • It does hot.
    It is hot.

Non si dice mai "it does" per il meteo: è sempre "it is".
